Still loving weekends...
I wasn't sure a weekend could possibly be better than last. I was wrong...this weekend rocked! I was signed up for the Big Dam Bridge bike ride (32 miles) on Saturday. Sometime in the last few weeks, I decided I didn't want to do the 32 mile...I wanted to ride 50. Decision made:) Friday evening, we took Michael swimming and then he was off to spend the night with his Granny. Dan and I went home and put a couple of steaks on the grill and sat down to enjoy our DVRd shows. The house was so quiet, it felt a little weird. Off to bed early since the ride started at 7:30 and we were meeting our friends at 6am. Boy howdy does 5am come early! Up and dressed and ready to go. I can't believe I'm going to ride 50 miles...this is huge for me! Blackhawk flew over and cannon (some really big gun on wheels) went off...and so were we. The first hour was great. Got to the turn around point at about 1.5 hrs and was a little tired. Ate a half of a pb&j and a half of a banana. Filled up the water bottle, and started to head back. Then I realized if I went right out of the parking lot, I could be home in 3 miles. If I go back the way I came, it'll be 25 more really long and hilly miles. Oh well, can't quit now. My goal was 50 and I'm going make it or die trying. About mile 40, I was ready to be done. Ten miles doesn't sound like many, but at my age and weight...it's a bunch. Alas, I made it. Three hours and 26 minutes on 2 wheels. My knees, quads and seat were done! Mom, Dan and Michael were all at the finish line waiting on me. (Dan finished about an hour and a half before me...he's freakin' awesome.) Dan said, "I'm proud of you honey, you did it!" That made it all worth while:) Home for a nap...nope. Michael's 2 cousins came over, so it was romp-a-roomp at the house for a few hours. Finally everyone leaves and I have about an hour to lay down. Then it's off to Mom and Dad's house for dinner. Dad spent the entire day smoking ribs for us. They were crazy good! To compliment Saturday, Sunday was amazing. Dan, Dad, and Michael went to Mississippi to visit Grandmother. I had the entire day to myself. I slept in, caught up on all of my shows, shopped for ME, cleaned the house and car, and sorted thru all of the paper that lands on the counter day in and day out. I hate that stack of paper. Everything has a place and needs to go to that place and the paper just doesn't conform to that theory at all. I feel like I got tons accomplished this weekend. When the guys finally got home last night, I was so ready to have my Michael back. He spent the night away Friday and was gone all day Sunday...I can't live without my kiddo that long! Alas, another great weekend:)

I figured out this weekend what exactly weekends are meant to be. Saturday morning I went for a bike ride. I was pretty excited, because I found a group of ladies with which to ride. That 12 miles at 10 miles per hour was fun, but I woke up a 7am, so I was bound-and-determined to get in an actual workout. I decided to make the LR/NLR loop and ran into a little traffic on the Big Dam Bridge...it was a walk for diabetes. There were no less than 5000 people walking over the bridge. I got off of my bike and walked over the bridge with the other folks. No worries. On to downtown, thru Jr. Deputy, passed the nice folks living outside the Salvation Army and down thru the River Market to the Clinton Library. Then I had the genius idea of crossing the river on the new Junction Bridge. Dumb idea. You've got to take and elevator up, cross the bridge, another elevator down, cross more of the bridge, and you finally make it all the way across the river. So, this bike ride that turned out to be over 30 miles, was at a snails pace. I think my average was 13 mph. Now, back to the house. Put Michael down for his nap, and we both slept from 1pm til 5pm...now that's a nap:) He must have been worn out from getting father/son haircuts and all of the shopping with Dad. Next up, Sunday. A nice 3.25 mile run, and another really long nap. This is what weekends are for, right?!?! Now, how do we get them to last longer??

This is new for me. I jump over and read these occasionally when folks link them, but have never really blogged myself. I'll start with a quick overview of the Crews Family. We are the average American family doing what the average American family does. We get up daily and go to work after dropping off the most amazing 4 year old at pre-school. Shortly after our 8 hours are up, we retrieve said kiddo and then it's home for dinner, chores, bath, and bed. Just a few hours later, we get up and do the same thing again, and again. We try to throw in as much fun as we can. Both of us like to exercise. I've taken up triathlons as a hobby, and Dan continues to love cycling. Michael is game for anything. We try very hard to expose him to as many educational/fun times as we can. Kids need every advantage they can get these days, and as early as possible. We are very blessed to have such wonderful family and friends. I guess this will be the place to see what's going in the Crews world.
